With Ukraine in Heart: Lawyer-Veterans Turned Their Emotions into Music

At a time when defending the country has become everyone’s business, the profession of a lawyer has taken on new forms of heroism. Today, lawyers not only uphold the law in courtrooms but also defend Ukraine’s independence within the ranks of the Armed Forces. The Committee of Assistance to Lawyers of the Kyiv Region – Participants in the Defense against Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine (abbreviated as the UBD Committee) unites such colleagues – lawyer-defenders who have taken up arms.

The Committee operates under the Kyiv Regional Bar Council as a permanent advisory body, aimed at assisting lawyer-military personnel and their families. Its mission is not only legal, moral, and material support, but also human solidarity, professional unity, and respect for those who risk their lives for the future of Ukraine.

A special manifestation of this support is an original song created at the initiative of Andriy Hrubsky (pictured left), deputy chairman of the UBD Committee, a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Yevhenii Mykolaenko, a current serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a member of the Committee.

This is not just a song. It is a living ballad in which every line sounds like an oath. The musical piece, set to its own melody, was recorded by the authors and is already available for listening. It deeply conveys the spirit of professional dignity, brotherhood, and love for the Motherland:

“With Ukraine in heart – we bravely defend,

The right to be Ukrainian, free, strong, and rightfully!”

“The Committee – not just strength, intellect is its element,

Some colleagues have long been at the front, where hope reigns alone…

So we stand united, everything is within reach for lawyers.”

The song has become a musical symbol that in the fight for freedom, words and weapons are not adversaries but allies.

The UBD Committee continues its activities as a platform for assistance, support, and recovery that any lawyer who has served or is serving, or their family, can turn to.
